Comedy / Drama

“ In the 1970s, a young idealistic teacher returns from abroad,
determined to help Thai children thrive through English and
traditional culture. However, upon arriving in his hometown, he
faces the extreme social values of local women who believe that
marrying a Western husband is the shortcut to a better life.
Between the rhythms of Mor Lam music and the allure of
Western dreams, he learns that life is like the worst comedian—
it makes us cry more than it makes us laugh. And sometimes,
true change doesn’t start with teaching but with listening and
understanding.”

Producer’s Note

During the Vietnam War (1965–1979), thousands of American soldiers were stationed in Thailand, known as “GIs” (Government Issued). This period led to a significant social shift, giving rise to a large number of Thai-American mixed-race children and shaping new societal values. Many Thai women aspired to marry Western men, believing it would ensure their children’s good looks and provide them with better economic opportunities and a promising future. One day, I came across a book written by a humble Thai teacher who dreamed of improving English education for Thai children. What he didn’t expect was to confront the deep-rooted social values of the locals, which shook his ideals to
the core. Through his innocent yet humorous observations, the story unfolds with valuable life lessons and offers a glimpse into a pivotal moment in Thailand’s history.

“I want to create a piece of art filled with raw intensity and violence. The time has come for me to experiment with this concept. This project marks my directorial debut, collaborating for the first time in this role with Dan Chupong, an actor I’ve known for years. It’s an experiment for us, but we hope it will deliver an exhilarating experience that fans of this genre will enjoy.”
